| As
a conservation services provider and third-party
verifier, Pure Energy serves utilities, governmental agencies and
educational institutions by providing consistently excellent
services including QA inspections of weatherization
contractor work and implementer visits; contractor training
and workshops; consumer energy conservation education;
energy audits; installation of some energy saving measures.
Our competitive advantage is that we have experience with all angles of the weatherization business: energy consumer, utility management, energy auditor, final inspector, installer, field evaluator, procedure writing. We are best because we have an unusual and excellent balance of technical and communication skills. We have “been there, done that”. |

To support utility and governmental representatives by teaching others how to reduce energy use.
|
We are your eyes and ears in the field. We work hard to support you. Our job is to ensure that your entity is getting its (and ratepayers' and taxpayers') money’s worth. |
Energy Conservation Audits: We run a variety of diagnostics in homes to determine where best to focus energy conservation efforts. These tools include: blower doors, infrared scanners, Watt meters, Solar Pathfinders, non-contact thermometers, combustion analyzers, and other tools. We also install some measures such as compact fluorescent light bulbs. We test refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners and dehumidifiers to find the inefficient ones and recommend energy efficient appliances to replace these inefficient appliances.
Quality Assurance Inspections: Our inspections involve checking weatherization contractor work to ensure that the work: will not diminish the integrity of the structure; will last for many years; is appropriate for the resident; will perform as designed; is safe; will save energy; and provides the utility or governmental entity with cost-effective results. We also make sure the contractor didn’t miss any cost effective opportunities that meet program goals. Our home visits typically last about 2 hours and include inspecting all parts of the structure, including the hard-to-reach areas.
Customer Energy Education: We interview utility customers to
determine energy use patterns. We determine if the energy
use is higher than average. If it is, we work with the
consumer to discover if the high use may be due to energy
waste in the home; and/or structural problems; and/or
appliance inefficiencies. Using utility bills as a guide, we
use a system to help us focus our time with the customer. We
discuss energy use habits and advise customers as to how
their behaviors and appliances affect their utility bills.
We then provide suggestions for alternate behaviors and
explain the resulting savings. We also do utility rate
analysis and counseling to determine which rate structure is
best for the customer.
Conservation Program Development and Management: We help
governmental entities and utility program managers design
program procedures and develop manuals for measure and
installation specifications.
Contractor Technical Training: Due to the sheer number of
years we have been involved with residential energy
conservation programs, we are often asked to provide
skills training to other energy conservation contractors.
We train in the field and in the classroom. We also teach
at national energy conservation conferences.

Weatherization Quality AssuranceQuality Assurance is an important part of any
utility's weatherization program. Not only does an
independent QA contractor ensure that weatherization
is done properly, but missed energy savings opportunities
and potential health and safety issues may be identified. |

Air Sealing OpportunitiesAir sealing customers' homes is important because unwanted air movement affects customer comfort, reduces home performance, increases energy use, and can cause moisture problems. Here we report Pure Energy's Final Inspection findings from a QA visit for a utility weatherization program.
By not using a blower door and by doing a cursory
investigation, the program installing contractor
missed several air sealing opportunities... |
Stay tuned for more case studies. |
