Services for Homeowners and Renters
We have developed tools to help consumers understand their
energy use and discover opportunities to become more energy
independent. People call us when they want to move toward
being more energy efficient.
- Do you want to know how your energy use compares with the
average? If so, we can tell you. Send us a printout of your utility use for at least a year, and some other info
(size of house, heating system, AC type, number of people, issues...) and we
will help you start your path toward energy conservation and
efficiency.
- Did you know energy costs are likely to rise
significantly in 2010 and 2011? We help prepare people for
the likely upcoming large increases in energy costs. We can explain
what you can do to save energy. Your bill may
increase after you take these steps, but it will be lower than it would be
if you don’t prepare.
- Are you thinking about replacing your windows? Think
again. The typical payback for energy savings is over 50 years.
Call us for more information.
- We offer energy audits and home energy inspections. The
purposes of an energy audit are:
- To help find areas where the structure may need improvement
(you have moisture problems or the house smells or is
uncomfortable or the utility bills are high…) and/or,
- To discover which appliances may need to be replaced for
efficiency, and/or
- To educate family members about energy use, energy costs,
and energy waste.
The visit may include: Using tools and techniques, such as a
blower door, infrared camera, combustion analyzer, Watt
meters,
non-contact thermometers. These tools help find: missing or
poor insulation, air leaks, duct leaks, heater, AC and water
heater
safety and efficiency, lighting efficiency, refrigerator or
freezer efficiency, waste.
See Costs and Services page for prices.
- Homeowner Workshops. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, we can show you how to:
- Choose the right CFL.
- Caulk and foam air leaks.
- Check the energy efficiency of your appliances.
- Prepare your attic for insulation.
- Choose window film.
- Evaluate your water heater for efficiency.
We hold DIY workshops or sessions on a regular basis. Call us for details.
- Is your site good for solar? We do solar site surveys and explain natural, renewable energy choices. If you are thinking of installing renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaic's or a wind generator, great! However, in order to save money on your system, you'll need to make your home more energy efficient first. In other words, unless your home is as efficient as it can be, you'll be buying a very large system to generate enough electricity or hot water to meet your current needs. It would be like putting solar panels on a Hummer! Instead, find out what you can do to reduce the amount of electricity and hot water that you need. Then, it would be like putting solar panels on a Prius!
Pure Energy specializes in helping you:
- Lower your utility bills
- Save energy
- Make choices about efficient appliances
- Make your home more comfortable
- Reduce moisture damage
- Improve air quality in your house
- Reduce your carbon footprint
- Receive a HERS and or Home Performance Energy Star rating for your home

Air Sealing Opportunities
Air sealing your home is important because unwanted air movement affects your comfort, the energy efficiency of your home, and can cause moisture problems.
A homeowner owner called Pure Energy because she was
not comfortable in her 1980’s era home. During our energy audit, we found several air leaks related to the ductwork. We also found insulation bypasses and air leaks...

Insulation Opportunities
Insulation slows down the flow of heat between the living space of your home and the outside or attic. A well insulated home feels warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer and has lower heating and cooling costs.
The ceiling of the living room in this home had some dark streaks. The homeowner also complained of drafts. Among other things Pure Energy discovered was...
